The Numbers Were Perfect. The Patient Wasn’t.
Richer Soul Podcast • Episode 511• Ramona Roemer & Andreas Heigl
The Modern Problem
Somewhere in the last decade, health became a dashboard. Sleep scores, heart rate variability, continuous glucose monitors, a dozen supplement stacks tracked against a dozen lab panels. The promise underneath all of it is simple: if you measure enough, you’ll finally know how you’re doing.
Ramona Roemer and Andreas Heigl have spent twenty years running a private longevity clinic, and they’ve watched that promise fail in a very specific way. The patients who arrive with the most immaculate lab results are, in their experience, often the ones who feel the most depleted, disconnected, and uncertain about what comes next.
The Hidden Pattern
There are two kinds of unwell patients that show up in their practice most often. The first has read everything, tried everything, and flown across the world chasing the next protocol, and still has no clarity about what’s actually wrong. The second has numbers that look better than the clinicians’ own, and still sits across the table feeling like something is off that no test has caught.
Meanwhile, the patients who track the least, who still trust a headache to mean something rather than checking a wearable to explain it, tend to present as calmer and more centered. Not less intentional about their health. Just less outsourced from their own signal.
The Assumption We Carry
The assumption is that more information produces more control, and more control produces more peace. It’s a reasonable assumption. It’s also, according to two decades of clinical evidence from one clinic, frequently backwards. A leaky gut that four doctors treated as a diet problem turned out to trace back to a traumatic experience nobody had asked about. The lab values were never lying. They just weren’t the whole story, and no one compiled the whole story until someone finally asked a different question.
The Clearer Lens
Ramona and Andreas describe purpose as a North Star: a direction that stays remarkably consistent even as its expression changes across a life. Their clinical work suggests something similar applies to health itself. The body is already telling you what’s off, usually well before it shows up on a lab report, through energy, emotion, and a felt sense that something isn’t right. The tracker can supplement that signal. It was never supposed to replace it.
The Implication for Life
This isn’t an argument against measurement. It’s an argument against using measurement as a substitute for listening. The goal was never to out-data your own body. It was to notice what your body is already telling you, and to treat the numbers as one voice in the room, not the only one.
One Question to Sit With
If you stopped checking the data for a week, would you still know how you’re doing?
About Ramona Roemer & Andreas Heigl
Ramona Roemer and Andreas Heigl are co-founders of VIMED CELL, a private longevity clinic based in Switzerland and Germany. Together, they work closely with high performing individuals across diverse cultural and personal contexts, combining advanced diagnostics and cell-based therapies with cognitive, emotional, energetic, and purpose-oriented perspectives.
Their work is shaped by years of hands-on experience with highly individualized cases, revealing a recurring pattern: people doing more for their health, yet experiencing less clarity. Their book, Unlongevity, challenges the assumptions driving modern longevity culture and offers an integrative alternative. Rather than adding more protocols, their approach focuses on discernment, timing, and alignment – helping individuals move beyond fragmented health optimization toward a more integrated and sustainable state of coherence.
