Ep 513 Your Bank Account Is Your Subconscious with Lillian Eve Moore

The Ledger You Can’t Argue With

Richer Soul Podcast • Episode 513 • Lillian Eve Moore

There is a version of self-improvement that runs on punishment. Look at what’s wrong. Feel bad about it. Try harder. Most people apply this to their bodies, their relationships, and especially their money, without ever questioning whether punishment was the right tool in the first place.

Trauma expert Lillian Eve Moore spends her days with people who have tried exactly that approach on their pain, for years, with little to show for it. What she has found instead is a pattern that shows up whether the subject is grief, chronic illness, or a bank account someone is afraid to look at: the punishing stance is precisely what keeps the truth hidden.

The Hidden Pattern

Underneath most people’s relationship with their own weaknesses is an old script. Something is wrong with me. If I look at it directly, I will have to feel how bad it is. Better to avoid it, or fix it fast and move on. That script gets applied to a stalled business the same way it gets applied to an old wound: judged first, examined never.

Lillian’s clinical work suggests the opposite order works better. Kind attention first. Contact with the actual problem second, without drowning in it. Then a physical way to process what surfaces, whether that’s breath, movement, or simply naming a sensation instead of a story. Only from that stance does the real information become visible.

The Assumption We Carry

Most of us assume that if something is “all in your head,” it isn’t fully real, and that if a problem is emotional or psychological, being told it’s simple is somehow insulting. Lillian pushes back hard on both assumptions. Once something registers in the mind, she argues, there is nothing more real than what is in your head. And the formula for working with it genuinely can be simple, even when the problem feels enormous. Simple is not the same as easy.

The Clearer Lens

The clearest reframe in the conversation borrows from an old religious idea most people have stopped taking literally: original sin, and the forgiveness that answers it. Stripped of the theology, it describes something Lillian sees in nearly every client, a diffuse, inherited sense that something about them is not okay. Her application is direct: if you can look at a failing business, a lack of money, or a body that is struggling, with the same forgiveness you’d extend for a moral failing, you get access to information that judgment keeps locked away.

The Implication for Life

If your bank account really does function like a mirror of your subconscious, then the number itself was never the problem to solve first. The belief underneath it is. That reframes the work: not “earn more,” not “spend less,” but “look honestly, without flinching, at what the number is actually telling you about what you believe is possible or allowed.”

One Question to Sit With

What would you actually see about your money, your body, or your relationships if you looked at them the way you’d look at a friend having a bad day, instead of the way you’d look at a verdict?
