Money for Meaning – Overcome Fear, Find Meaning, Build Wealth with Mark and Mihaela

Money Learnings: Mihaela grew up under communism in Yugoslavia during the civil war. Her family was divided over communism. Her dad was an entrepreneur.

Mark grew up thinking his parents were weird. His parents were super frugal. Mark was surprised delivering food to the poor and they had more than his family. Mark received an allowance for doing chores. He wanted more so he found ways to earn more money. He started saving at an early age. School didn’t teach Mark about money but about status.

Take away: Things are not going to make you happy. Happiness comes from within.

Action step: Where are you spending money and not receiving joy from it. Go back through your purchases over the last 90 days by looking at your credit card or bank statements and ask yourself if it was worth it?

Mihaela left her childhood home at 10 and they became refugees as they escaped the war.
Mihaela learned to focus on experiences versus possessions.
We don’t need stuff to be happy. We do not need to not follow consumerism and status goods.
Don’t let your younger self sign your older self up for massive debt.
Reducing screen time also reduces the exposure to commercial marketing.
Money = time. You give up time to make money.
Raising financially savvy kids.
The biggest failure is not trying.
When you have a strong financial base you have the ability to say no.
Mark created a cash spending system so he could live within a budget.
By cutting expenses and spending less they were able to save a lot of money. It never felt like a sacrifice.
Mark created an alternative to spending so it was easier to make spending decisions.
The feeling of being on point and on purpose is amazing.
What do you want to do with your life? Money alone is not going to make you happy.
Does your spending give you joy?
Have the courage to say no to societal expectations.
Buying a house may not be the right choice.
Why a Ferrari may not provide fulfillment and what does.
Why money is more emotional beliefs than logic and information.
Change comes from within not from external sources.
